Web of Facts is a visual relationship mapping application that helps you organize, understand, and visualize complex networks of information. You can create entities (people, places, things, events) and connect them with relationships to see how everything relates.
Yes. You control who can see your projects through visibility settings. Private projects are only visible to you, organization projects are shared with team members, and public projects are visible to all users.
There's no limit to the number of projects you can create. Each project is independent and can use a different template.
Web of Facts includes seven templates: General Purpose (flexible for any use), Network/IT Infrastructure (for documenting systems), Home Inventory (for tracking possessions), Travel Planner (for trip planning), Capability Map (for business capabilities, units, and applications), Genealogy (for family trees and ancestry research), and Org Chart (for organizational hierarchies and reporting lines). Each template comes with relevant entity and relationship types.
Each project card on the dashboard displays a colored badge showing its template type (General, Network, Inventory, Travel, Capability Map, Genealogy, or Org Chart).
There are several ways: Double-click on empty canvas to add an entity. Shift+drag from one entity to another to create a relationship. Right-click anywhere for a context menu with available actions. You can also use the sidebar buttons.
Yes! Right-click on any entity and select "Clone" from the context menu. This creates a copy of the entity with all its data, positioned slightly offset from the original. The properties panel opens automatically so you can modify the cloned entity's fields.
Click the "Fit to View" button in the sidebar to automatically resize and center the entire graph within the viewport. You can also use the scroll wheel to zoom in/out manually.
Absolutely! The application works entirely in your browser. You can create and edit projects offline, then sync to the server when you have internet access.
Don't worry! Your changes are automatically saved to browser storage every few seconds. When you reopen the project, you'll be prompted to recover your unsaved work. Once you sync to the server, the auto-saved data is cleared.
Auto-save stores your work locally in your browser's storage to protect against crashes. Syncing uploads your project to the server for permanent backup and sharing with others. You should sync regularly to ensure your work is safely stored on the server.
Projects are stored as SQLite database files. This is an open, widely-supported format that you can access with any SQLite client if needed.
Yes! You have several export options: download as a SQLite database file, export to Excel spreadsheet (XLSX) with all data organized by entity type, or export the graph visualization as an SVG image.
Yes! Use the "Import Spreadsheet" button to import data from an Excel file. You'll see a preview of all changes (additions, updates, deletions) before they're applied, and you can selectively choose which changes to accept.
Use the search bar above the graph canvas. As you type, matching entities and relationships are highlighted while non-matches are dimmed. The search looks through labels, types, and all data fields including notes. Press Escape to clear the search.
Create an organization and invite team members. Projects set to "organization" visibility can be viewed and edited by organization members based on their permissions (owner, editor, viewer).
There are three permission levels: Viewer (can view but not edit), Editor (can view and edit), and Owner (full control including managing permissions and deleting the project).
Yes. Set the project visibility to "Public" and anyone with access to your Web of Facts instance can view it. Only users with explicit permissions can edit public projects.
Click the "Change Password" button in the header when logged in. You'll need to enter your current password and choose a new one (minimum 8 characters).
Contact your system administrator to reset your password. Self-service password reset is not currently available.
Contact your system administrator to request account deletion. Note that this will remove access to all your private projects.
Yes! Every entity type in every template supports multiple images. Add images in the entity's properties panel — you can label each image and mark one as the "primary" image to display it on the canvas.
Make sure you've marked an image as "Primary" by clicking the radio button next to it. Only the primary image is displayed on the entity. Also ensure the image URL is accessible and points directly to an image file.
Click on any image thumbnail in the properties panel to open it in a lightbox view. Click anywhere outside the image or press Escape to close it.
Check the status indicator in the header. If it shows "Unsaved", try clicking "Sync to Server". If syncing fails, ensure you have an internet connection. Your changes are still protected by auto-save in browser storage.
Large graphs with many entities can be slower. Try zooming out to see the full picture, or break your project into smaller, focused graphs. Closing other browser tabs can also help.
Yes! Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) or click the Undo button in the sidebar to reverse your last action. You can undo up to 50 recent actions including entity creation, edits, deletions, and moves. Use Ctrl+Y to redo.
